Update: Landfill reopens after crews contend with ‘minor fire’

The North Battleford waste management facility is back open after a fire early Monday morning.

At around 8 a.m., a minor fire was spotted at the landfill. The fire department was called to help landfill staff extinguishing it.

Nine personnel spent approximately four hours working to get the fire under control. The city said no one was injured and the cause remains unknown.

As crews tackled the flames, the facility was closed to the public and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment was notified.
