Saskatchewan's second season

Several regional highway upgrades planned for 2020

As the 2019 construction season comes to a close, the province is preparing for 2020.

It will tender $259.8 million of highway construction as part of the fall tender plan, which includes 45 planned projects and more than 400 km of work across the province.

In a media release, the province said tendering projects early can help secure contractors sooner and reduce the risk of increased costs.

Around the Battlefords, projects heading to tender include grading and paving of passing lanes on Highway 7 near Kindersley, resurfacing nine km of Highway 14 near Unity and resurfacing just over 24 km on Highway 16 outside Marshall.

“Investments into the province’s highways and infrastructure helps support our members, keep the economy strong and enhance driver safety,” Saskatchewan Heavy Construction Association President Shantel Lipp said in the release. “By tendering earlier, our members are in a much better position to plan effectively and get the resources into place that will be required.”
