John Paul II cross country season finishes strong

Another great year for cross country athletes has wrapped up for the season.

The John Paul II collegiate cross country team had another successful year conclude with four of their nine athletes qualifying and competing in the provincial championships in Prince Albert.

Cross country Coach Kristina Binette talked about how much determination her athletes showed competing in a number of events throughout the season.

“They are hardy; they run in all types of weather. It takes some pretty special kids to do that. When we ran in Langham, it was 30 degrees on Monday and six days later in Wilkie it was six degrees. You need really hardy kids who enjoy running and being outside who support each other to be able to maintain that,” she said.

According to Binette, the season was filled with personal bests and great finishes at a few events.

“We had a really successful season. Highlights would be running in the heat in Langham, running in the rain and snow in Biggar and posting some personal bests at provincials,” she said.

Binette attributes a lot of the team’s success to the support they provide each other during practice and at competitions.

“They work hard and enjoy the outdoors and they like being a part of a team. You compete as an individual but also as part of a team. They really cheer each other on,” she said.

The team wrapped up their season on October 12 and is already looking forward to another successful season next year.
