Battleford hockey player Colby Cave was placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers over the weekend, before then being sent down to the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Cave, who began his NHL career with the Boston Bruins, was claimed off waivers by the Oilers back on Jan. 15.

Cave picked up three points in 33 games with the Oilers last season, before suiting up for an additional two games with the team through the early going this year.

Prior to his return across the border, the forward collected five points in 23 games with the Boston Bruins between the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

While Cave has yet to see his first AHL action with the Condors this season, the 24-year-old is a veteran of the league, having played 239 career games with the Providence Bruins from 2015 to 2019.

Over that time, the forward has posted 43 goals and 115 points, while also serving as an alternate captain for Providence his last three years with the team.

Prior to his professional hockey career, Cave grew up playing his grassroots hockey in the Battlefords, before then also spending his Midget hockey days in the community. Following an abbreviated three-game stint with the Battlefords North Stars, the forward’s career took off with a move to the Major Junior ranks with the Swift Current Broncos in 2011.
