Annual Rockettes calendar campaign kicks off

Oct 11, 2019 | 8:48 AM

People from around the community came together for a night out at Bennigan’s Thursday, to celebrate the official launch of the 2020 Rockettes calendar.

An annual event promoting breast cancer awareness and raising money for cancer research, this year marked a special milestone, as the 10th anniversary of the event.

The calendar is supported by 93.3 The Rock, a division of the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

Nearly every model involved has been touched by cancer in some way, a key contributor to their involvement with the project.

For Jessica Oborowsky, this was her first experience shooting for the calendar. She said the opportunity to support a good cause like breast cancer research made it an easy decision to take part.

“Everyone on this earth has been touched by breast cancer whether it is through relatives, a friend, or family member, so I think it is just amazing to come together and support such a great cause,” she said.

Oborowsky said it’s great to see the community support for the event as well, with a number of people coming out to share in the evening, and make it a special celebration.

“It has been so fun and everyone has been so supportive coming here,” she said. “(From) the appetizers, (to) the generosity, everyone’s welcomed us and everyone is just having such a great time.”

Warne Noyce has photographed the models each year of the calendar since he first moved to the Battlefords a decade ago. He said he is proud of the tradition the calendar has become, and grateful for those who make it possible and support the cause.

“I think anybody and everybody has been touched in one way or another by breast cancer, or any cancer for that matter,” he said. “With October being breast cancer awareness month, it makes sense to do this. The people involved put a lot on the line to be here and do this, so we got to support them and support the whole cause.”

This year’s theme was glasses, with each of the ladies featured in the calendar sporting some sort of eyewear in unique and creative ways to play on the calendar year being 2020.

The 2020 Rockette calendars cost $20 and are available at the CJNB office and a number of locations across the city.
