North Stars explode for 10 versus Bombers

Sep 24, 2019 | 5:51 PM

The Battlefords North Stars lit up the Flin Flon Bombers 10-3 Tuesday afternoon in the teams’ final game of the League Showcase in Warman.

With the win, the Stars improve to 5-0 to start the season.

Eight different players scored for the team in the victory, while goaltender Adam Dmyterko stopped 28 of 31 shots, including a penalty-shot save in the second period, for the win.

North Stars’ Dylan Esau, Seth Summers, Kaden Boser, Austin Becker, Dace Prymak, Matthias Urbanski and Carson Reagan each pitched in with a single goal, while Quintin Loon-Stewardson led the way with a natural hattrick.

All three of Loon-Stewardson’s goals came in the second period allowing the Stars to pull away in what, at least at first, began as a tight game.

Esau opened the scoring for the Battlefords six minutes into the first.

Picking up a drop pass from Urbanski high in the zone, the Meadow Lake product, Esau snapped a wrist shot past the goalie from the hash marks for his third of the season; 1-0 North Stars.

Just over two minutes later, Bombers’ forward Alec Malo tied things up 1-1 on a wrister from the left circle, snapping a shot high under the bar to knot the score.

Seth Summers reestablished the Stars’ lead just over 30 seconds later.

Receiving a pass at the right point from Dace Prymak, and without skipping a beat, Summers delayed his shot for just a moment, before stepping around the onrushing defender and launching home a hot shot from the slot to beat the goalie clean.

The highlight-reel play made it 2-1 Stars.

The lead would again be a short one however, as just under 40 seconds later, Bombers’ forward Donavan Houle-Villeneuve converted his first of back-to-back power play goals to close out the period. Just like that, the Bombers were in front for the first time at 3-2.

The Bombers took their one goal lead to the dressing room.

In the second, as mentioned prior, Quintin Loon-Stewardson turned the tide back in the Stars’ favor with three-straight. Capitalizing back-to-back-to-back, the forward used each a snap shot, wrist shot and one-timer to put his team ahead for good in the contest, and provide some insurance to boot.

Loon-Stewardson’s three tallies were the only goals of the middle period. The frame would end 5-3 Stars.

Bombers’ goaltender, Jacob Delorme was pulled following the second, after allowing five goals against on 23 shots.

In the third, rather than let up, the Stars continued to push further. The team wired off five consecutive past the Bombers’ backup goalie, JP Mella.

Boser’s goal made it 6-3 Stars and served as the Saskatoon product’s third of the season.

Becker’s tally was the winger’s sixth of the season, and gave the forward his fifth-straight game with at least a single goal.

Prymak’s marker at the 9:21 mark made it 8-3. It was the rookie forward’s second in four games with the team.

After the veteran Urbanski made it 9-1 with his first, freshman Carson Reagan capped the scoring parade at double-digits, making it 10-3 Stars.

With the loss, the Bombers fall to 4-2 on the year.

The North Stars will now get a couple of days off before they return to action this weekend for back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against the Ice Wolves in La Ronge.

Both games this weekend will be broadcast on 1050 CJNB, beginning at 7:15 p.m.
