There were smiles all around on Friday when Mayor Ryan Bater stood beside business owner Gary Brar to snip the ribbon for the grand-opening ceremony of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in North Battleford.

Located on 114 Street, the hotel is just a few blocks from North Battleford’s concert theatre and recreation complex.

The facility features 89 rooms, a pool with a waterslide, a hot tub, exercise room, breakfast area, meeting room, outdoor patio, and guest internet stations. All rooms in the hotel including the double rooms have king-sized beds. The facility is also pet-friendly.

“It’s a great day here in North Battleford,” Bater said. “This has been long anticipated. Now the community not only has a great new business, but we have added to our capacity to be able to attract visitors and to host more events.”

The mayor said the facility will also be a big boost to the economy, providing more accommodations for visitors.

The Holiday Inn Express and Suites had a free barbecue lunch for the community during the afternoon, and a live band planned for musical entertainment later in the day.

Brar said he was pleased to see the facility completed and opening its doors.

“We are very excited how the whole product turned out, and today is just a beautiful day,” he said. “We really appreciate all the people that came in, and there are a lot who are still coming in. They are impressed with the workmanship and the great looking hotel we have.”

The facility has more than 10 staff currently and will be looking for more.

Brar said Holiday Inn Express and Suites chose North Battleford after the company had been looking at this market for over five years, before making the decision to build the hotel here.

“I couldn’t ask for anything more,” he said.
