With the snip of a ribbon, Mayor Ryan Bater officially reopened 100 St. after two months of construction.

Heralded as another step forward in downtown revitalization, the work included infrastructure replacement and roadway and sidewalk repair.

A problematic 60-year-old section of a water main was replaced as well as the water and sewer service pipes to the buildings adjacent to the street. Some of these connections were century old lead pipes. The city said the investment “drastically improves the quality and safety of water for our city today and the future.”

Badly deteriorated sidewalks and roadway were replaced, which the city said will enhance the overall aesthetic of downtown North Battleford.

Improvements to the streetscape include accent paving, stonework, tree planting, benches, lighting, bollards, waste bins and decorative banners.

“A walkable downtown is fundamental to a vibrant downtown and is key to pedestrian safety,” the city said in a news release.

Curb extentions, it said, shorten the crossing distance and time pedestrians are in the street. It also improves the ability for pedestrians and motorists to see each other and curb extension facilitates more orderly parking.
