Holiday Inn now open in North Battleford

The new Holiday Inn Express and Suites is open in North Battleford.

Owner Gary Brar of the Western Star Group of Hotels said the facility boasts modern amenities, tailored to the companies new formula blue specifications.

The 89-room hotel includes a pool, hot tub, meeting room, breakfast area and exercise room. All the beds in the hotel, including double rooms, are king-sized.

“We were thinking about hockey teams and parents coming in,” Brar said.

Some rooms are equipped with separate bedrooms for those checked in for an extended stay.

Brar said he eyed the North Battleford market for some time and though other hotels have recently opened, this is a step higher.

“I think it will take the community to the next level for accommodations,” he said, adding how the new hotel will add to the city’s capacity and lend an opportunity to host more events, tournaments and conferences.

Twelve people are currently employed at the hotel but the company continues to hire.

During construction, several local workers were recruited to help build, including referrals from the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies’ career centre. Brar said his construction crews bought much of their supplies through local wholesalers.

Aside from some final touches to landscaping, the hotel is complete and taking bookings.

A grand opening with a ribbon-cutting, band, tours and giveaways will take place on Sept. 20.
