It was a day of giving back to someone who dedicated his life to giving.

Catholic Family Services (CFS) of the Battlefords honoured Pius Pfeifer and his family for being long-standing benefactors to the non profit and its work.

Executive Director Kim Morrison said the building on 101 St. in North Battleford was renamed to Pfeifer Place to recognize him and his family’s support that spans close to 30 years. The agency installed signage with the new name on the building, which Pfeifer donated to them.

Morrison said Pfeifer’s support is invaluable to CFS.

Pfeifer attended with his daughter Linda and son Gary.

The 90-year-old started his business,Twin City Plumbing and Heating, after he arrived in North Battleford in 1956 after immigrating from Germany in 1953. He was named Citizen of the Year in 2019 for his many contributions to the Battlefords.

“Mr. Pfeifer always showed great interest in the agency and compassion for the families we served,” said Board Chair Connie Carignan. “[Since 1993] his charity started with a rental fee that was less than the market standard, but was affordable to us. On many occasions he waived the rent because the agency was struggling financially.”

Carignan called the building, which was donated in 2005, an incredibly generous gift that has helped to create stability for the agency, the services they provide and the families served.

Since 1995, Pfeifer has supported the annual CFS fundraiser gala at the Tropical Inn .He provided the facility for the agency to use, as well as meals for up to 350 people and staff required for the event. He event purchased his own ticket to attend charity nights.

“What is noteworthy about Mr. Pfeifer and his acts of charity is that he always gave in the true spirit of giving; he gave and expected no public recognition,” Carignan said.

Pfeifer said he just wants to help others.

“I would like to give something back, which I have received,” he said. “We have been blessed, and I am very thankful. I want to share the things we have. We have enough, and we have extra to help other people with what they need; we are proud to do so. “

CFS provides counseling and supportive independent living among other services and programs.
