Discovery Co-op has been ranked among Saskatchewan’s largest businesses.

In SaskBusiness Magazine’s annual list of top 100 companies in the province for 2019, Discovery Co-op placed 46. That is an eight spot improvement over their 54 place finish last year with 2018 sales totaling over $131 million.

General Manager of Discovery Co-op Mike Nord said they are very excited to be ranked among the top businesses in Saskatchewan.

“We’re a truly local business that proudly delivers goods and services to our customers and members, so being named on a province-wide list like this means a lot. Many things have changed over the years, but our values and principles haven’t. We believe in sharing our profits with our members, creating new opportunities and investing in our communities,” he said.

Marketing and Communications Manager Leanne Ducommun attributes Co-op’s diversity with contributing to their rise in the ranks.

“The one really great thing about the Co-op is the diversity of all the commodities that we have. The community and our members tells us what the needs of the community are and we do our best to ensure that we provide those needs for the community and I believe that is a huge contribution to the success that we’ve seen,” she said.

Discovery Co-op has a long history of appearing on the SaskBusiness Top 100 list but this year is the highest they have ever finished.

In total, 26 Saskatchewan-based retail co-ops are included on the SaskBusiness list. Ducommun said the number of co-ops on the list show the strength of the retail co-operatives.

“We are a member-owned company and I think the numbers really speak for themselves and the strength of Saskatchewan. We have always based our brand on listening to our members and community needs and giving back. We also pride ourselves on being locally owned and I think these things are very important to the future of businesses and the amount of co-ops listed on the list really show that,” she said.

Ducommun said Discovery Co-op continually strives to improve and will look to finish even higher on the list next year.

“We are always pre-planning. We are always trying to forward think about what we can do to better the community and better the things we provide as services. We are constantly looking for data on what is going to be needed and anticipate the needs of the community. That is where we are headed and we hope to have great success with that.”
