Stars back on the prowl against Bobcats as preseason action continues

Sep 7, 2019 | 2:52 PM

Less than 24 hours after a 3-0 North Stars’ decision at the Civic Centre, the Battlefords and Lloydminster Bobcats are back at it Saturday night.

The scene will shift to the Border City in the back-half of the teams’ home-and-home this weekend.

The North Stars enter Saturday 1-1 in preseason play. The Bobcats, meanwhile, will be looking to answer back for last night, and correct a 0-2 start to their exhibition season.

The Stars have proven through camp, and throughout the first-half of the preseason, to be a quick team that plays a fast-paced game. Sophomore defenseman, Seth Summers said the team may be even faster than the group that won the Canalta Cup last year.

“I think we brought in a lot faster guys, and have a lot faster pace to our game,” Summers said. “We’re going to show the league what we’ve got this year, we’re going for another championship,” he added.

Stars’ head coach Brayden Klimosko echoed his defenseman’s sentiment. He said what the team may have lost in size from last year’s club, they have made up for with speed and an up-tempo energy.

“They can’t catch you if they can’t keep up with you,” Klimosko said. “That is kind of our plan, and hopefully we can keep developing that style of play that we can play against those heavy teams and really dominate those slower teams.”

Klimosko also said heading into the third of four preseason games tonight, the lineup will begin to take form, including fewer prospects, and more players likely to be on the opening night roster.

Taking place at the Centennial Civic Centre in Lloydminster, puck drop tonight will be at 7:30 p.m.

The North Stars broadcasts for the 2019/20 season will begin Sept. 13 on 1050 CJNB.
