Annual drive-in movie slated for September

There is no better way to take in a movie than with family and friends on a big screen, under the stars.

The city is hosting their annual Send off to Summer drive-in movie on Sept. 13 in the field adjacent to the CUplex.

From locals in the community to infinity and beyond, all are invited to take part in this year’s family film.

This summer will mark the sixth year of the city’s annual drive-in, an event that has garnered quite the following. The drive-in has only continued to grow since the first summer it was hosted, when about 400 cars attended.

Program Manager Candace Dustan said she is happy to see the community respond to the event the way they have over the last number of years.

“The support has always been amazing,” she said. “We are very fortunate in this community that people come out to events and they appreciate it when events are put on, so the community support has been great.”

The movie will begin at 8 p.m. with various activities for the kids taking place ahead of the screening, starting at 6 p.m.

Volunteer staff from Innovation Credit Union will be in attendance to host carnival-style games for kids.

Food vendors will be in attendance and free popcorn will be provided by Magic Lantern Theatres.

“It is a great opportunity to spend some quality family time together, with a little bit of nostalgia mixed in,” Dustan said.
