Battlefords RCMP initiate project to execute outstanding warrants

Aug 21, 2019 | 1:56 PM

People with outstanding warrants are being sought after by the Battlefords RCMP.

Over the past three weeks, the detachment initiated a project to seek these people out. The team dedicated to this project have arrested 44 people to date and executed 87 of the outstanding warrants.

Everyone who has been arrested has either appeared before the courts or has been provided a court date.

Insp. Tom Beck said a project like this helps them limit the volume of calls they receive during this busy time of year.

“We found that in the past when we did these types of projects that our calls for service actually declined quite a bit” he said. “The timing just because it is summer and we are busy so we are just trying to get our call numbers back down to regular reasonable numbers.”

The project is a coordinated effort between the RCMP Crime Reduction Team as well as neighbouring detachments.

Officers are also working with Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers through submissions of most wanted people onto their website to generate tips to locate those particular individuals.

If anyone with an outstanding warrant would like to deal with it, they are encouraged to go to the RCMP detachment so they can assist in setting up a court date, Beck said.
