Summer comes alive at Northwest Territorial Days

For friends Max Gubbe, Kale Hassett, Noah Bernier and Jet Rose, the Exhibition is all about the rides.

“My favorite ride is the choo choo train,” Gubbe said, before adding that he intends full-well to head back in line for the train ride at least 40 times before the day is through.

“I like the spinout,” Hassett said, pointing to a windmill-like spinning arm, “and the Zipper!” added Rose, gesturing to the monstrous turning cage on the left. But for at least one in the group, the rides take a back seat to what’s really important.

“The food is my favorite part,” Bernier said in matter-of-fact fashion. “I like the mini doughnuts, definitely.”

From sweet treats like sugary mini donuts to giant elephant ears and specialty hotdogs, the Northwest Territorial Days have a pleasantly lingering aroma that only comes about when the fair comes to town.

In addition to classic snacks and the thrilling shrieks from rollercoaster rides whizzing by, both young and old can enjoy a number of entertaining shows and programs on the final day of the exhibition.

At 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m. in the Agriplex building, the Vemon Exhibit – Fears, Myths and Truths will come to life, with animal handlers showcasing a number of venomous creatures and sorting out fact from fiction in an educational program.

For thrill seekers, at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. will be the Top Cop High Dive Act, featuring dives from as high as 25 metres into a pool just 8 by 3 metres.

Unique to the final evening, Friday at 6 p.m. will be the 2019 Western Canadian Finals Demolition Derby. Now in its 35th year, the annual fan-favorite event will take place at the grandstand.

Northwest Territorial Days will wrap up this evening with fireworks at dusk.
