For a baseball player, there is no thrill greater than the crack of the bat on a swing for the fences.

Of course, the thought of being inducted into the Hall of Fame for their prowess in the sport may be a close second.

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame will host their annual Induction Dinner Aug. 17.

Among the individuals inducted Saturday will be: Dean Pylypow (North Battleford), the late Dwayne Andreen (Saskatoon), Don Anweile (Saskatoon), Gary Brotzel (Regina), Sharon Clarke (Regina), Bernie Eisworth (Regina), Elmer Franks (Weyburn), Don McIntyre (Wainwright, AB [Neilburg]), Ernie Moser (Mendham), the late Wes Reader (LaFleche), Lawrence Sloan (Glaslyn), and the late Bill Sobkow (Calder).

Dean Pylypow was an integral member of the 1980 UCT Junior Beavers’ team that won provincials on their way to a silver medal at Western Canadians. That year the team also won the bronze medal in the 1980 Summer Games, and claimed the River Baseball League Championship. (submitted photo/Jane Shury)

Inducted in the Team Category will be the Hyas Baseball Team of the 1920s to 1930s, the Mendham Monarchs of 1951 to 1993, and the Mervin Juvenile Legionnaires of 1948 to 1952.

The lone family inducted this year will be the Beck Family, from Lang, Sask.

The class of 2019 will mark a milestone as the 35th annual induction for the Museum.

President and CEO of the Hall Jane Shury said the annual night of enshrinement is always a highlight she and the staff look forward to.

“The atmosphere is electric,” she said. “The celebration is in honour of those people – the individual, team, family, or community that contributed to our rich baseball history here in the province.”

The induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, kicking off with a reception at 3:30 p.m. followed by a banquet and ceremony at the Alex Dillabough Center in the evening. Tickets are available at the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.
