There may have been a little bit of rain sprinkling through the morning Friday, but that didn’t put a damper on some old-fashioned family fun in the community.

The Fred Light Museum hosted its first-ever Old Fashioned Family Fun Day Friday on the Museum grounds in Battleford.

A unique mix, both educational and entertaining, the day’s festivities brought about great joy as laughter filled the air with young and old alike taking part in throwback games such as tug of war, three-legged races and scavenger hunts.

There were also a number of demonstrations carrying on throughout the afternoon, including blacksmith, lathe and rope making demos.

With all kinds of exhibits and vendors on display as well, perhaps the biggest attraction of the day was a horse and wagon ride around the area.

Manager of the Fred Light, Bernadette Leslie said the event came about a way to bring the community in to see what the Museum is all about, while also enjoying a fun atmosphere of games and activities on the grounds.

Leslie said the turnout for the event in its inaugural year has been a pleasant sight for both herself and for everyone who came together to make the event a possibility.

“It has been fantastic,” she said. “We were not sure how many people we would have with this being the first year, but our turnout has been really good. We are pleased with how it is going and we will definitely have it again next year.”

Board member with the Museum, Tim Pruden echoed Leslie’s sentiment. He said he was happy to be part of the day’s festivities, offering another special event for the people in the community to enjoy.

“The Battleford community is very supportive,” he said. “It is a great place and the Fred Light Museum has a lot of good stuff. People tend to support what goes on in Battleford and at the Museum and this is just an awesome project.”

The Family Fun Day runs until 6 p.m. Friday.
