The annual St. Walburg Wild Blueberry Festival coming up will be the place to be for anyone in the mood for some fun and something tasty.

This year marks the 31st anniversary of the popular attraction that takes place Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24.

Lois Hawryluk, an organizing committee member, said festival goers will find there is lots to enjoy during the event.

“There will be music in the streets and food vendors, and numerous [other] vendors out on the street,” she said.

During the day, performers will entertain the crowds from the stage set up for the festival.

Hawryluk said the Car Show and Shine is also a popular attraction.

The event kicks off Aug. 23 with two sittings of an ethnic supper at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., followed by a dance. The meal features a variety of multi-cultural food items, such as Ukrainian and Chinese dishes.

“It’s always well attended,” Hawryluk said.

On Aug. 24 the festival gets underway, starting at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast held at the Catholic Parish Hall.

Visitors can take in a range of activities throughout the day at the festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

And, wild blueberries will be available of course, while supplies last.

Festival goers can also enjoy some blueberry tea, or spend time with their families at the children’s activity area. There will also be arts and crafts products on display.

The St. Walburg and District Fire Department will host a barbecue where visitors can grab a bite to eat.

There will also be blacksmithing demonstrations and antique machinery on display for those with a penchant for the past.

People can also relax at one of the beer gardens.

To cap off the evening, organizers are planning a dinner and entertainment beginning at 5 p.m.

The festival is considered St. Walburg’s most popular attraction of the year, and will go on rain or shine, Hawryluk said.
