Lloyd Pirot Country Music Jam promises a party in the park

Jul 19, 2019 | 2:47 PM

Nothing sooths the soul like music played in community.

The second annual Lloyd Pirot Country Music Jam will be Aug. 3 at the Aquadeo Tennis Courts.

A “Party in the Park,” the admission by donation event is designed for all ages, with proceeds donated to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Partial organizer A.J. Gagne said he got involved with the project as a way to honour Lloyd Pirot, the former owner of the Aquadeo Hotel, and a friend and jam partner for many years prior to his passing.

“Back at the Aquadeo Hotel, we had a lot of impromptu jams,” Gagne said. “The guitar would come out and we would just play and play, sometimes until the cows would come home.”

In addition to the musical acts on tap, including Gagne, Elyssa Marchuk, Myrna Kemp and Adam Avery among others, the event will feature a karaoke portion hosted by Kemp that will allow for those who do not play an instrument, but would like to sing a song, to showcase their talent.

Complimenting the musical entertainment will be a craft sale and 50/50 draw to raise money on the day.

Among the activities for children will be face painting, and the event will conclude with a fireworks show at dusk.

About 400 people attended the event in its inaugural year, raising over $5,000.

Gagne said he is grateful for the support from the area ahead of this year’s event, support that has only continued to grow with a number of people volunteering their time and resources to help make the Music Jam happen.

“In this community the people are so generous,” he said. “Everything is donated – from the tennis courts to the food; no one working makes a penny, and all the proceeds go to [a great cause], the Pattison foundation for the children’s hospital.”
