Sask. RCMP officer charged with unsafe storage of gun

Jul 17, 2019 | 2:48 PM

A Saskatchewan RCMP officer is facing charges in connection to an incident that happened in Saskatoon last fall, involving a gun being stolen from inside an unmarked RCMP vehicle.

Const. Shannon Drall was charged with unsafe storage of a restricted firearm. She is scheduled to appear Wednesday at Saskatoon Provincial Court.

In August 2018, the Saskatoon Police Service investigated the theft of an RCMP-issued firearm and its ammunition from inside an unmarked RCMP vehicle parked in Saskatoon. During the investigation, Saskatoon Police Service members were able to recover the stolen firearm and ammunition and return them to the Saskatchewan RCMP.

Following the theft, the RCMP officer responsible for the firearm was placed on administrative duties and an internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation was initiated. As a result of the conduct investigation, corrective measures were imposed on the officer. Since then, the officer has returned to operational duties.
