Group set to walk from Saskatoon to North Battleford to mark one year since Ashley Morin`s disappearance

Family, friends and supporters will make an arduous 137 kilometre walk from Saskatoon to North Battleford to mark the one-year anniversary since North Battleford woman Ashley Morin disappeared.

“It’s to keep the awareness that she is missing, and that we miss her and we love her,” friend and family spokesperson Krista Fox said. “She is out there somewhere. We have to do what we can to keep people aware that we are not giving up. We will not give up until we can bring her home.”

Fox said Morin’s grandmother will take part in the walk, one of around 25 to 30 people expected to participate.

The walk will start at 8 a.m. on Friday, with participants gathering outside the Saskatoon Police Service building.

The group will walk along Highway 16 during the day and rest and pitch tents at night likely near Borden on Friday night, and Maymont, Saturday. They should reach North Battleford Sunday evening.

Fox said participants will carry banners so there will be a high presence of pictures of Morin, with the hope more people will see and remember what she looks like.

Fox asked anyone who wants to make donations for the trip, whether it be providing refreshments or a monetary contribution, to contact her via Facebook.

“It’s something we set our mind to and we are going to help the family through this,” Fox said of the three-day walk.

Fox said a missing persons’ liaison from Saskatoon will join them on the walk. She said anyone else who wants to join is welcome.

“I am sure people can only imagine how it feels as a mother to not know where your daughter is,” Fox said. “The more support can get out there for [the family], the better off we are.”

The family’s reward for any information on Morin’s whereabouts has now been set at $15,000.

Fox said the family still hopes to find answers.

Battlefords RCMP and the Major Crime Unit North continue to investigate Morin’s disappearance, which is considered suspicious.

Morin, who was 31 at the time, was last seen July 10, 2018.
