Friday evening fun

Territorial Drive Farmers Market hosting grand re-opening on Friday

Jul 3, 2019 | 9:00 AM

Second time is the charm for the Territorial Drive Farmers Market.

The market will have its grand re-opening celebration this Friday July 5 from 4 to 9 p.m. to celebrate its second year of operation.

Event organizer Christine Vangool said there will be a full line up of local area musicians playing at the market as part of the celebration.

There will also be face painting and a contest going on for this weekend with the event’s Facebook page. Vangool said that to enter people have to like their Facebook page and share their grand re-opening post. Prizes for the competition have been donated by the vendors attending the market.

This will be the second-straight year that the market has been open on Friday evenings throughout the summer across from Walmart on Territorial Drive.

“We want to connect the community with people that are here. We want to be a local fun event, so if we have local artists [and vendors] then it gives them a chance to be known in their own communities,” Vangool said.

The event has not only grown from last year to this year, but also grows from week to week with more vendors and shoppers showing up each Friday.

Vangool says it is the perfect spot for anyone looking to pick up some fresh fruit, veggies, and baking on their way to the lake or just enjoy a supper from one of the food trucks and browse the shops of local vendors and take in some local live talent.

“We have heard from a lot of people that they really love coming in because they don’t just come and buy something and leave. They buy supper from a food truck, they eat some ice cream and they sit down and enjoy some music and it’s an event instead of just a quick shopping experience.”
