Roadwork on 100 St. to begin July 2

Motorists will be met with detours next week as work beings on a major road in North Battleford.

Starting July 2, underground utility work will begin and run for about three weeks on 100 St. and 12 Ave., with roadway reconstruction to follow and go until approximately Sept. 13.

The work will impact 100 St. from 11 to 12 Ave. and 12 Ave. from 99 to 100 St. The city said pedestrian access to businesses will remain open via the back alley. Water service disruptions are expected on 100 St. during work on underground pipes. Advisories will be distributed.

The city asks visitors heading downtown to plan ahead and leave a little extra time to find parking.

Motorists using 100 St. and Railway Ave. to go through the city are encouraged to use Territorial Dr. as an alternative route to get around the city and avoid traffic congestion downtown.

The work was pushed until July to accommodate the high number of school buses that use the route. A planning director with the city said the work will be phased as much as possible to avoid total shutdowns, similar to work on 101 St. last year.

“There will be a section of time where both sections are under construction but it is being phased as much as we can,” Jennifer Niesink said, adding extensive conversations were had with impacted businesses.

Elsewhere in North Battleford, the King Street Station parking lot construction is progressing as planned and anticipated to be complete by July 12. The city said the initial completion date was delayed due to recent wet weather.

Underground utility work is complete on 113 St. south of 13 Ave. and road reconstruction is underway and expected to wrap up on July 5.

Foley Dr. road rehabilitation will begin July 8 as the underground utility work has wrapped up. The city expects this to be finished by July 28.

At the airport, the resurfacing of runway 12-30 is underway and should be complete by July 5. The airport will be closed while the work proceeds.
