New Virtual Reality arcade set to open in Battlefords

Jun 24, 2019 | 2:01 PM

Virtual Reality is taking the gaming industry by storm, and North Battleford is getting in on the action.

Legendz VR Arcade is set to open in North Battleford and have all the equipment people need to get in on the latest gaming trend.

“I raised all of my kids here and I just felt that the whole time we were raising them we were lacking family entertainment. Now that my kids are all graduated and moved out I thought I would open something up for the future generations to enjoy,” owner Tammy Peel said.

“I’m just really excited to be a new business in the Battlefords and to be contributing to the growth of the Battlefords,” she added.

The grand opening is scheduled for July 5 and the owners are kicking it off with a fundraiser in support of The Lighthouse here in the Battlefords.

Sword-In-The-Fords will be a friendly Beat Saber video game challenge between interested teams of two. A minimum donation of $20 per person registered a team. Competition rounds will last for 15 minutes.

Beat Saber is a rhythm game, much in the same vein as Dance Dance Revolution, with a virtual reality twist. Players have two handheld controllers that act as light sabers and have to cut through coloured blocks in a certain order and direction in time with the rhythm of a song all while dodging or ducking incoming obstacles.

It is also one of the hottest trends among gamers on YouTube, with countless videos being uploaded daily of people challenging some of the hardest songs.

The competition will be for anyone aged nine and up. There will be three different prize categories for contestants: top overall individual score, top combined score of two rounds of any entered team, and best pre-game video that gets posted to the Facebook page.

The prizes for the event will be announced before the competition gets underway.
