It’s summertime and the weather is getting warmer!

What does that mean for your four legged friends?

Extreme heat puts your pet at risk for dehydration.

You can prevent dehydration by providing your dog or cat with proper shade while outside and access to water. A dog or cat that loses too much water (approx. 10-15% of water in their body) can get very sick, and in severe situations it can be fatal.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure your pet gets at least 1 ounce of water daily for each pound that they weigh.

Older, sick, pregnant or nursing animals tend to get dehydrated easier so you may have to keep a close eye on them to ensure they are keeping hydrated.

If your pets show any (or multiple) signs of dehydration, please get them to a veterinarian immediately for medical attention.
