Inaugural Amazing Adventure Race coming soon

Zip-lining, canoeing, an obstacle course and archery; these are just a few of the activities that will be included in the first-ever Amazing Adventure Race at Blue Mountain Adventure Park.

In addition to the aforementioned activities, co-ed teams of six (ages 12-plus) will face off in a variety of events including an aerial course, paintball target practice, a five-kilometer hike, and wall-climbing, among others.

Event organizer Elissa Parker said the wheels were set to motion on the event after she brought the early idea for the Adventure Race to CrossFit North Battleford, who will co-host the festivities.

“I just thought ‘What if we could create a day where you could try all the events [at Blue Mountain] for a discounted price, and what if we made it a light-competitive community thing?’” Parker said. “I called North Battleford CrossFit and they thought it was great. They [also] worked really hard on it.”

Although the list of events may sound a bit intimidating at first, Parker said the goal of the race is to bring the community together to have a good time.

She said there will be a variety of stations, testing not only brute strength and athleticism of participants, but also requiring strategy and teamwork.

“They’re not all set up to cater to [just] the physically-fit person,” Parker said. “We really wanted to make it a non-intimidating event. It’s just about coming out and having fun, bringing the family, bringing along the kids, and supporting one another.”

Sixteen teams have registered for the event as of Friday, with the registration window still open until June 10. Sixteen teams ensure at least 96 people will be taking part in the race.

Free admission is granted to spectators who do not wish to participate. The snack shack will be open for food and drink purchase throughout the day.

First prize will include a $1,200 cash prize, along with a free paintball party. Second prize is free family day passes to the park, while third place receives a 50 per cent discount off of cabin rentals.

Following the race, there will be a complimentary barbecue for participants. Those attending the park in a viewer’s capacity are welcome to purchase supper as well.

Also at the conclusion of the race, Blue Mountain will be selling wrist bands to the public, allowing all an opportunity to try out any of the activities they wish.
