Tim’s Camp Day fundraiser sees plenty of support

There was lots of community support for the Tim Hortons Camp Day fundraiser Wednesday to help send kids to camp.

The aim of Camp Day is to raise funds to benefit the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps in North America, for youth aged from 12 to 16, coming from disadvantaged circumstances.

Youngsters attending the camps learn a variety of useful skills such as leadership, as well as how to develop resiliency and take on new responsibilities, according to the Tim Hortons website.

Battlefords RCMP Staff Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt offered his assistance serving customers at the Battleford location in the morning, working at the drive-through window.

“We participate every year with the local Tim Hortons to support the Camp Day for kids,” he said.

“It’s very important to us to be able to work with other people in the community and other businesses, and special interest groups to help provide opportunities for youth to further develop, or have some experiences that might be life-changing,” Woolfitt added.

More RCMP officers visited Tim Hortons locations in the area during the day to do their part behind the scenes.

Along with hot drinks, the restaurant sold special $2 limited-edition Camp Day bracelets. Customers also have the option to donate directly to Camp Day throughout the year.

Territorial Drive Tim Hortons Manager Dennis Manalo said staff were hopping during the day, greeting many customers to help with the cause.

“It was quite crazy,” he said, adding there were also some fun activities for customers to take part in.

Manalo said the worthwhile project helps many youth.

“We’re trying to change a single kid’s life by sending them to camp,” he said.
