Man facing drug, weapons charges after speeding past officer with lights on

May 31, 2019 | 4:15 PM

An Alberta man who was going more than 60 km/h when he drove past a police cruiser with its lights on is now facing a number of drug and weapons charges.

On May 30, members of the Saskatchewan Roving Traffic Unit were working in the Maidstone area when they pulled over the vehicle.

During the stop, the officer made several observations that led to the 25-year-old driver being detained for a drug investigation.

A police dog searched the vehicle and alerted officers to drugs.

A search found around 100 grams of cocaine, brass knuckles, $8,000 in cash, several pills suspected to contain fentanyl and a loaded semi-automatic pistol.

Cold Lake’s Michael Wardrop was arrested and is facing trafficking, drug and weapons charges.

He will appear in Lloydminster Provincial Court in June.
