Battleford street celebration looking for more vendors

May 27, 2019 | 5:00 PM

Organizers of the upcoming community street celebration planned for downtown Battleford on July 18 are inviting vendors to register if they wish to participate in the event.

“Anyone who is interested in putting a table in and showing off their wares, and getting a little bit of exposure in the community, they are certainly welcome to come,” Gail Sack, a spokesperson for the Battleford Community Spirit Group (BCSG) said. BCSG is a non-profit organization comprised of community volunteers with a passion for promoting Battleford.

The event will include food trucks, musical entertainment, a sidewalk sale, the farmer’s market, as well as room for up to 80 vendor tables.

“The Community Spirit Group wanted to get people together to just know your neighbour, get to know your community,” Sack said.

The Town of Battleford recently approved temporarily closing 22 Street from First Avenue to Second Avenue – from the downtown park to the Pennydale Junction corner – from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the evening of the event.

Sack said the town grew so much in recent years as the population continues to increase so the BCSG thought it would be fitting to have a street fair to help residents get better acquainted with all that Battleford has to offer.

The street fair will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The deadline for vendors to register to participate is July 1 at Battleford Boutique. There will be no charge for the vendor tables or booths at the event.

Organizers are also planning a guided walking tour of Battleford, to showcase some of the historic buildings in the town while the fair is running, for those who wish to participate.

“If anyone is interested in learning a little bit about the history of the Battlefords, we will have that set up as well,” Sack said. “We are doing a bit of research on the buildings and will be going from there.”
