The North Battleford Public Library will feature a Travel Talk Wednesday, May 29, as Candice Froess will recount her recent journey to Limerick, Ireland.

Froess, who works as an assistant librarian at the local library, said the whole trip came about thanks to a friend’s destination wedding in Limerick.

“I actually went for a friend’s wedding, but I decided to make a whole trip out of it,” Froess said. “I went to see a castle, a cathedral and a museum, which were my main pieces of interest.”

Spanning six days, Froess’ trip included many new sights and experiences, while also featuring others that were reminiscent of her time spent in eastern Ireland for school.

Froess stayed in Dublin for a year while taking her Masters in Library and Information Studies. While the nuances specific to the city of Limerick were fresh and new, she said the overall cultural experience had a certain familiarity.

“[It] was a new experience for me, a new city, but I was familiar with the people and the culture,” she said.

As for what she hopes people take away from her talk Friday, Froess said she just hopes to bring back a little bit of the wonder she experienced overseas.

“I just hope they enjoy seeing the pictures and they can experience a little bit of what I experienced in Limerick,” Froess said. “The history, is just something you kind of marvel at.

“The Cathedral that I saw was built in 1168,” she said. “[It is] actually one of the oldest buildings in Europe that’s still used for its original function, because people still actually still attend mass there. It’s just [about] taking away some of the marvelous aspect of it all.”

The talk is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the NB Public Library on May 29.
