North Stars’ hometown boy commits to UofA Augustana

North Stars’ forward Owen Lamb has committed to the University of Alberta Augustana for the fall of 2019.

Lamb, who grew up in the Battlefords, attended North Stars’ games growing up. He said he’ll forever cherish the memories made during his time with the Stars, highlighted by two league championships in 2017 and 2019.

“Something that every hockey player wants to be able to do, is win a championship,” Lamb said. “It’s pretty special to be able to win two. I think with the second one [especially], being a 20-year-old, it feels pretty great.”

Lamb caps off his junior career with not only a second championship, but personal career-bests across the board statistically as well.

After scoring nine and five goals respectively through his first two years in the league, Lamb was one of only seven players in the SJHL this season to hit the 30-goal plateau.

Scoring a team-leading 30 goals, Lamb also finished second on the Stars in points with 57 in 56 games, before adding another 12 points in 16 playoff games, on the team’s run to the Canalta Cup.

Lamb said being able to achieve the success he has while playing in front of friends and family in his hometown, made the journey something extra special.

“I’m pretty grateful I [was able to] live at home with my mom, my brother and my dad, and we still got to go to my grandma’s house every Wednesday for supper,” Lamb said. “I got to see my family all the time and they could watch me, and I just love how much support I get from them.”

Owen’s mother, Shannon Lamb, said having the opportunity to see her son live out his dream, and share in the experience alongside him, was a treat in itself for the family as well.

“It’s been great, Shannon said. “Owen loves what he does and it’s been great to see the success that they’ve come to. I really didn’t want to see him go, I don’t want to see him go now, [but] he is 21, so I guess it’s time,” she added with a laugh.

The University of Alberta Augustana is a school located in Camrose, Alta., a city about 90 kilometers southeast of Edmonton. Featuring about 1000 undergraduate students, Augustana is also home to a competitive hockey program that finished fourth in the ACAC, posting a 17-10-1 record this season.
