Some hockey fans are calling it the ‘hit of the year.’

Prince Albert Raider’s defenceman Max Martin set the internet on fire when he launched Halifax Mooseheads’ Keith Getson into the boards during the opening game of the 2019 Memorial Cup presented by KIA.

Despite the dramatic impact, both players managed to bounce back quickly and continue on with the game that the Raiders would go on to lose 4-1.

Martin told paNOW’s Jeff D’Andrea in Halifax, that he didn’t know how massive the hit actually looked until it started trending online. On Twitter, a video of the collision tweeted by Sportsnet has been viewed more than 2.3 million times.

The Raiders are back on the ice for their second game at the Memorial Cup in Halifax on Monday night when they take on the QMJHL President Cup Champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Puck drop is at 5 p.m. Listen to live play-by-play coverage with Trevor Redden on Saskatchewan Country CKBI radio.
