NB wave pool re-opens after repairs completed

May 14, 2019 | 8:47 AM

There was good news for those who have been waiting to use the wave pool again since the facility has been partially closed due to a mechanical failure in mid-April.

The city’s Leisure Services Director Cheryl DeNeire announced at North Battleford city council’s meeting Monday that the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre repairs have now been completed.

The wave pool, lazy river and water slides features will be ready for use again Tuesday, since the facility was tested Monday and is back in order.

Mayor Ryan Bater said following council that it was expected the wave pool would be out of service for six weeks for repairs, so it was fortunate the work was able to be completed in four weeks instead, as a positive sign.

“We are two weeks ahead of schedule, and the equipment failure has been corrected, so the pool is open,” he said.

“We did this ahead of schedule which is great. A lot of hard work went into doing that, (and) a lot of coordination,“ Bater said.

He thanked the public for being so patient while the pool was undergoing repairs.

“These things do happen,” said Bater of the pool’s mechanical problem that needed to be corrected. “I really appreciate everybody’s understanding.”

The wave pool and lazy river had been closed for a total of 33 days due to the malfunction.

The pool facility will now be returning to its regular schedule effective Tuesday, confirmed DeNeire.

There will be a reopening celebration for the full facility on Saturday and Sunday, with a free public swim starting at 2:30 p.m., sponsored by Tim Hortons.
