The Saskatchewan Roughriders added one of the CFL’s top defensive players to their lineup Thursday.

The Roughriders announced they have signed international linebacker Solomon Elimimian, who boasts an impressive CFL resume.

Over his first nine seasons in the league – all spent with the B.C. Lions – the 6-foot-2, 225-pounder has been named a West Division all-star five times (2011, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017) and a CFL all-star four times (2011, 2014, 2016 and 2017).

He also was named the CFL’s most outstanding rookie in 2010, its most outstanding defensive player in 2014 and 2016, and its most outstanding player in 2014.

He won a Grey Cup with the Lions in 2011.

The 32-year-old product of Calabar, Nigeria, signed with B.C. in 2010 after playing collegiately at Hawaii. In 118 career regular-season CFL games, Elimimian has recorded 745 defensive tackles, 36 special-teams stops, 29 sacks, eight interceptions and eight forced fumbles.
