Moosomin F.N. elects Bradley Swiftwolfe as chief

Bradley Swiftwolfe has been elected chief of the Moosomin First Nation in a landslide victory.

The weekend election saw him receive 267 votes, nearly 120 more than his closest opponent Hilliard Kahpewaysewat, who earned 148, and Quinton Swiftwolfe, with 129. Ashley Swiftwolfe took 80.

Elected as councillors were Willie Blind, Dean Kahpewaysewat, Thomas Lightfoot, Bernice Moosomin, Harry Joseph Moosomin, Lance Myo, Fabian Swiftwolfe and Preston Kahpewaysewat.

Forty people sought seats as councillors.

Chief and council will serve two-year terms.

Eight ballots were rejected in the councillor election and five in the vote for chief.
