BUW changes things up in this year’s Charity Golf Classic

The Battlefords United Way is gearing up for another major fundraiser in their milestone half-a-century anniversary year.

The Charity Golf Classic is seven weeks away, and will once again be held at Jackfish Lake Lodge and Conference Centre. The annual event is now in its twenty-second year, and this year will signify a big change on events of the past.

The event usually has been held on a Monday in July, but this year will be held on Friday, June 21. Events and Campaign Coordinator Rose Silzer-Quinn says that she hopes this gives golfers more of an opportunity to participate.

“Over the years, we’ve seen our donor dollar numbers declining,” she said. “(We are hoping) we will get more golfers out.”

Silzer-Quinn made mention of the fact that numbers are decreasing at an alarming rate when it comes to donations to the Battlefords United Way. With that, the non-profits that the BUW supports aren’t going away anytime soon, Silzer-Quinn says.

“Their needs aren’t decreasing, they’re increasing rapidly,” she said.

The shotgun start is at 1 p.m., and teams of four to six players at $125 per golfer are welcomed to register now. The fee pays for the green fees, electric cart, steak supper, and comes with a $50 charitable tax receipt per golfer. Individual sign-ups are welcomed as well, as the organizers will assign them to teams.
