Those with an interest in unusual and exotic animals will be able to take a walk on the wild side starting Thursday when curator Jeff McKay, better known as Safari Jeff, brings his show Into the Wild to North Battleford.

“It’s an educational-nature program,” he told battlefordsNOW Tuesday. “We share a variety of live reptiles – snakes, lizards, giant tortoises, turtles, frogs and toads.”

McKay hopes to show people attending the event how the balance of nature works, and to highlight the positive roles animals play in their own habitats.

The live, multi-media show, will include a wide range of creatures that will amaze kids and adults alike, with about 10 different animals participating in the event.

“We’re really excited to be back in the community,” McKay added. “A lot of the animals are quite unusual, but the albino animals are some of the rarest and most bizarre to see.”

This marks more than 30 years the Safari Jeff show has been running.

“All the animals are very unique and have a story to tell that’s for sure,” McKay added.

Those taking in the show will have an opportunity to be up close and personal with the animals, too, at the end of the presentation.

McKay likes to describe the show as “edu-taining.”

“It’s a very popular program. The animals are really exciting and thrilling to see,” he added.

The tour started in March in Victoria, B.C., and continues across Canada.

His wife Shannon McKay will be joining the tour as well, and releasing her children’s book, Antarctica, at the same time.

The show runs at the Discovery Co-op Territorial Place Mall in North Battleford on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., Friday 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday at 11 a.m.
