Over $25,000 raised at Battlefords Humane Society Dinner and Auction

The Battlefords Humane Society held their 2019 Fundraising Dinner and Auction over the weekend, and raised a fair bit of funds in the process.

The gala was held at the Gold Eagle Casino on Saturday night, and featured a presentation, supper, and live as well as silent auctions. All together, the Humane Society raised just over $25,000, which will be going to cover costs and upkeep of the society, according to Michelle Spark, shelter coordinator.

“I think everybody enjoyed the new things we added, like the raffle table and the VIP table,” she said. “I think it all went well.”

The gala included a presentation and tribute on the late Vice-President Terry Blanchette, who passed away on March 11. The gala theme was “A Dog’s Purpose” and Spark said it’s important to take a look at the importance behind the animals and show how much of a purpose each and every one of them has.

“All dogs have a purpose in life,” she said. “Whether it’s to be a service dog, therapy dog, or a police dog or search and rescue, or just a family pet that keeps somebody company.”

Around 270 people came out to attend the gala, which Spark said was a great turnout for the annual event.
