Capitol Annex has big weekend with Endgame premiere

It was a big weekend for movie-goers across the world, and that hype didn’t stop outside the Battlefords.

The new Capitol Annex Theatre had two theatres open for the public to show Avengers: Endgame, and nearly every showing was sold out. Around the world, it is estimated that it took in around $1.2 billion. Here, the numbers haven’t been released, but it was a huge success for the new theatre, manager Ursula Swindler says.

“We had our doors open early,” she said. “Everybody was super pumped and excited. (There were) a lot of tears when they came out of the theatre.”

The Captiol Annex opened a month ago, and Swindler says there has been a large amount of work done behind the scenes to make sure things are running smoothly. At this point, they do have most of the big aspects ironed out, but little things are still being down behind the scenes.

She knew this weekend was going to be a big test for the new theatre, and all the feedback she received was positive from first-time visitors to the Annex.

“They were super excited about the new theatre,” she said. “They loved the seats, the design and energy in the theatre, they loved that.”

Swindler says her staff was able to get around 90 per cent of the movie-goers into the theatre early for the shows over the weekend. She says her Thursday screening and Friday and Saturday shows- including the matinees- were sold out for Endgame.

Looking forward now, the Tuesday night showing of Endgame will be another big test, as Tuesday is usually their most popular night. Swindler says they’re ready, and to get your seats early.

“We have a sold-out sign ready to go for the window,” she said. “If you don’t get your tickets early for Avengers, you probably won’t be getting a seat.”
