Fire ban in effect for North Battleford

Apr 22, 2019 | 10:33 AM

A fire ban is in effect for the City of North Battleford until further notice due to dry conditions and high winds.

Controlled burning and any kind of burning outside of an approved fire pit is prohibited until further notice.

The fire department has already attended grass fires this spring and the ban is a precautionary measure, Fire Chief Trevor Brice said in a media release.

He encouraged residents to make their properties as fire safe as possible in these conditions.

“Keep dry vegetation and combustibles away from buildings, be cautious with discarded smoking materials, and please report any suspicious activity or fire starters to the RCMP and or Municipal Enforcement,” Brice said.

The department approves the use of legal fire pits, for which a fire pit permit is required.

Residents can get one from the fire department, as long as extreme caution is exercised.

This includes maintaining close supervision of the fire, having water nearby, extinguishing it after use, and paying close attention to the wind and potential sparking hazards.
