‘Devastated’: Woman has dog’s ashes stolen during break-in

Mandee Forester lost her dog of 13 years in January. It was her close companion and protector.

But Wednesday night, her home was broken into, turned upside down and one of the few items the thieves made off with was her dog’s ashes.

“I don’t even have words to describe what that is like,” she told battlefordsNOW.

The ashes were in a blue satin bag tied with a gold rope. She doesn’t know why the bag was targeted and stolen, though she assumes the thieves figured it was of high importance, perhaps filled with drugs or simply wanted to be life runners for a minute.

“For something like this to happen so shortly after she is gone and then to have that taken is there are no words,” she said.

Forester said she had a grief process in mind for how she wanted to handle her dog’s death and this wasn’t it.

“I would just like that piece of her back so that I can handle it the way I am meant to,” she said. “I just want to say goodbye.”

Anyone who finds the bag can contact her via Facebook.

A spokesperson for the RCMP said they are investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
