Town Hall promises to have discussion and invaluable opportunity for community

It’s a chance to see the Battlefords through the eyes of those enforcing the law.

Battlefords RCMP members are set to hold another Town Hall in just a week’s time. Attendees can expect a presentation from the members and voice their opinions during a question and answer period to follow.

The meeting will take place at the Don Ross Centre on April 18 at 7 p.m. in room 107. Battlefords RCMP Staff Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt said it’s important to hold these Town Halls, for both the detachment and the community.

“To build those relationships within the community, and provide some transparency,” he said. “It allows the public to have an opportunity to ask us questions, or provide suggestions or ideas.”

Woolfitt said there’s a chance to have one-on-one interactions with some members of the detachment. The presentation will include an overview of policing strategies, a layout of the policing area, strengths of the detachment, as well as stats and future projects that are in the works.

Woolfitt said previous meetings led to important discussions and changes to policing.

“It’s helped us a great deal. Especially in certain areas of the community where some feel there isn’t enough of a police presence,” he said.
