The Battlefords Water Doves Synchronized Swim Club returned from the Sadie Caulder Knight Provincial Stream Championships in Saskatoon with a handful of hardware.

Fifteen members of the Water Doves competed in seven different categories at the meet, which is a record high number of swimmers over the last decade. Over 200 swimmers from across Saskatchewan were in attendance for the three-day event.

“For those competitors that received medals, awesome. For those that placed, terrific. For all of the competitors, great job! It was a pleasure to watch you all,” Team Co-President Gloria Tkachuk said.

Coming home with medals was Victoria Machniak, who won gold in the Special Olympics – Level 2 category, finishing first in figures, her solo routine and the championship.

Emma Russell struck silver thanks to a fourth-place finish in figures, second in the solo routine and second in the championship 12 & Under – Solo category.

Katelyn Payne and Tara Parker each came back to the Battlefords with silver medals in the 13 to 15 – Duet category, with Parker finishing 14th in figures, second in duet routine and second in the championship. Payne has similar results in the duet routine and championship competitions but placed fifth in figures.

Jordon Elder found gold around her neck thanks to a third-place finish in figures and first in the solo routine.

The Water Doves have two more special occasions prior to the end of their season. The annual Year End Water Show is scheduled for April 12 at the Co-op Aquatic Centre. The public is invited to attend.

The final competition of the season is the Canadian Prairie Championships in Regina in May. This is an invitational meet that attracts swimmers from across Canada.
