‘Catch it! Stop it! Treat it!’: Annual On Air for Health Care Radiothon nears

Apr 8, 2019 | 3:23 PM

We are just over one month away from the annual On Air for Health Care Radiothon, which is set for Friday, May 10.

The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group of stations – Q98, 93.3 The Rock, and CJNB – will broadcast live from the main lobby of the Battleford’s Union Hospital.

The 12-hour event begins at 6 a.m. and features stories and interviews by those who support the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation.

This year’s radiothon will raise money for the BUH Foundation’s “Catch it! Stop it! Treat it!” campaign, which is looking to raise $500,000 to purchase a new mammography unit for the Medical Imaging Department at the hospital.

“Over the last 10 years, we have put equipment into the operating room, x-ray, emergency, room, intensive care, maternity, chemo room. There are so many departments the foundation has put equipment into,” executive director Claudette McGuire said. “Every dollar adds up and will make a difference. Your donation combined with your neighbour’s donation will help us reach our goal and provide you and your loved ones with the best care possible.”

Last year, the radiothon exceeded its goal and brought in over $250,000, which was put towards replacing and upgrading the heart monitoring equipment. The new cardiac telemetry system allows patients with cardiac disease to move freely around the hospital while still being monitored from intensive care.

In 2017, the community came together and helped raise the funds for the new Ears, Nose & Throat Surgical equipment, which had a campaign goal of $380,000. The 2016 radiothon was hugely successful and raised most of the $600,000 the BUH Foundation had committed to the purchase of a new CT Scanner.
