Nicotine facing new charge, due back in court in May

On top of a litany of charges stemming from a police pursuit and exchange of gunfire with officers south of Battleford in late March, Randall Nicotine is now facing a charge of mischief.

The charge from March 27 is related to Nicotine allegedly destroying property owned by the provincial sheriff.

The 33-year-old appeared via closed-circuit television in provincial court Wednesday morning, where his case was set over until May 8.

Judge Lorna Dyck granted his Legal Aid defence lawyer Andrew Lyster a longer adjournment to deal with the lengthy list of charges.

He was wanted on a Canada wide warrant for parole violations when he was arrested after a lengthy run in with officers on the night of March 21.

Nicotine is charged with forcible confinement, child endangerment, and assault of a police officer with a weapon, among others.

He is the same individual seen in the ‘Epic RCMP Takedown’ video that made the rounds on social media in 2016. His arrest on April 4 of that year was captured by a passing motorist’s dash cam.

He was convicted of four counts of assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, resisting arrest and two counts of breach of probation and handed a four-year jail sentence less time served.

The Saskatchewan RCMP have requested the Moose Jaw Police Service conduct an independent, external investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident on March 21 as shots were fired by officers.

Additionally, the provincial body has requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer.
