Two people have been charged with trafficking following a traffic stop for illegal window tint.

RCMP said on March 27, officers stopped an eastbound vehicle on Highway 16 west of Maidstone at around 4:30 p.m.

During the stop, the officer became suspicious of illegal drug possession and the vehicle and occupants were detained for a further investigation.

Based on evidence found while detaining the suspects, the vehicle was searched and 10.5 ounces of meth was found, alongside money, a digital scale and multiple cell phones. The vehicle, a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was also seized.

Eric Arthur Pemberton, 45, from Spruce Grove, Alta., and Akol Acuil Piok, 31, from Regina, were charged with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Both will make their first court appearance on May 28, in Lloydminster Provincial Court.
