Chamber accepting nominations for 2019 BBEX awards

The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce has announced it is now accepting nominations for its upcoming 2019 The Battlefords Business Excellence Awards (BBEX) competition.

This year will mark the 26th anniversary of the annual awards ceremony.

“We’re very excited that the nomination kits are now available for businesses to start completing and contemplating to put their names forward in a category,” said Battlefords Chamber of Commerce Chief Operating Officer Linda Machniak.

People will be able to nominate businesses up until the June 21 deadline.

“I think it will be a bit different from last year, because (2018) was a big production because it was the 25th anniversary,” Machniak said. She added she is looking forward to seeing a new leaf turning over as BBEX embarks on another quarter century of recognizing Battlefords businesses’ successes.

The Chamber said it honours excellence in the Battlefords business community in eight separate categories – New Business Venture, Customer Service, Marketing, Micro Business, Heritage, Community Contribution, Battlefords’ Best Employer, and Business of the Year.

Business can be nominated from seven categories with the exception of Business of the Year. They will be automatically considered for the Business of the Year category if they are selected as finalists in the six open categories, which are: New Business Venture, Customer Service, Micro Business, Marketing, Community Contribution, and Battlefords’ Best Employer.

An anonymous jury will select the award winners in the competition based established criteria.

“(The jury) only evaluates on the application kits package submitted, not on video presentations seen on the evening of the event (or anything else),” Machniak said, adding a business can be nominated for up to two categories.

Machniak added the chamber expects there may also be a Hall of Fame inductee again this year as well but that will be determined at a later date.

“We’re excited about the changes that were made in the 25th anniversary event last year and carrying them forward into this season,” she said.

The finalists in the six open categories will be announced sometime close to Labour Day, Sept. 2. The Heritage Award recipient will also be announced at that time.

The actual award ceremony will take place Tuesday, Oct. 8.
