Umpiring clinics set for Battlefords and area

Baseball season is coming and those looking to become umpires will have a chance to do so at an upcoming clinic.

Kirk Schafer, an umpire out of Wilkie, says anyone with experience when it comes to officiating will have an easy time moving to the sport.

“Any time a kid that’s already been officiating sports, it’s an easy transition to the game of baseball,” he said. “It’s a great game, there’s so much respect for the umpires from the players and officials.”

Clinics for level one and two umpires will take place April 6 at the Battleford Central School.

The same clinic will be available in Unity May 5. The clinics will have a bit of physical training, Schafer said.

“When you come to the clinic, be prepared to run a little bit, squat and jump,” he said. “You’ll need running shoes, and sweatpants and be ready to move.”
