Cochin theatre kicks off with new show and reno

Local theatre lovers will want to take in Cochin Community Players fun new play coming up called Unnecessary Farce.

Clint Barrett is directing the dinner-theatre comedy show by Paul Slade Smith.

The theatre company describes the show in its lead up as: “Two cops, three crooks and eight doors,” when the madcap action starts.

The story is a classic farce, based on an embezzling mayor’s meeting with his female accountant in an economy hotel. At the same time, in the next room two undercover police officers are attempting to record this meeting on videotape. There ends up being a mix-up about who is in which room, who has taken the money and who is watching the video, as part of the crazy shenanigans.

New renovations

A big highlight for those taking in the show will be seeing the brand new renovations to the venue.

The Cochin Community Hall where the theatre is located has undergone extensive upgrades that were recently completed.

Bill Baker, one of the founding members of Cochin Community Players, said the show will be the first event held in the community hall since the upgrades were finished.

“The renovations look great,” he said. “It’s quite an extensive renovation.”

The $150,000 project was completed with support from Cochin Community Players’ fundraisers and donations.

Baker said the work involved a full facelift to the building’s interior. The Village of Cochin arranged to have the renovation work completed.

“There have been quite a few changes since a year ago,” Baker added.

Wheelchair accessible bathrooms, LED hall lights and a buffet room were a few of the upgrades.

Those interested in attending the upcoming show are encouraged to get their tickets early.

The Saturday, April 6 show is already sold out, while the two Sunday Brunch shows are filling up fast.

Unnecessary Farce will run April 5 to 7, and 11 to 14. Information on purchasing tickets is available on the Cochin Community Players Facebook Page. The dinner-theatre shows starts at 6:45 p.m. Brunch-theatre shows are available for Sunday performances only, and begin at 12:45 p.m. Porta Bella will cater meals for the event.
