Birthday gathering planned for missing woman Ashley Morin

Mar 15, 2019 | 2:52 PM

Family members of missing woman Ashley Morin are planning a special ceremony to honour Morin’s birthday.

The event will include a potluck supper and will take place in North Battleford at Sharkey’s Pool Hall, downstairs of Carousel Bingo, from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 24. The family is inviting friends and all supporters to attend.

“March will mark eight months since we’ve seen her beautiful smile,” family friend and spokesperson Krista Fox wrote on Facebook. “We will not forget the day this beautiful girl was brought into this world. And for this reason we will gather together on this, her special day. She would be turning 32 on March 24.”

Fox said the supper event will be open to the public if they wish to come. If people want to bring anything to the potluck they are asked to send a message to Fox on Facebook first.

Morin’s uncle Randy Bird said the family wants to let Morin know “if she is anywhere being held that she is not forgotten and her birthday was still honoured.”

The event follows a previous online fundraiser and auction which raised $6,000. The funds were added to the total reward amount for any information on Morin’s whereabouts. The reward is now at $11,000.

He said Morin is from the community, “knows a lot of people and has touched a lot of hearts, and we need to bring her home.”

Bird added the family plans to start another round of ground searches soon.

He said it was a challenge for the family and friends not being able to do any searches during the extreme frigid cold weather but they will return to the effort in the near future.

“We are going to go until we have some type of closure,” he said.

Morin, 31, has been missing since July 10, 2018. Her disappearance was considered suspicious, and the RCMP’s Major Crime Unit North has been assisting in the investigation.

If anyone has any information regarding Morin’s whereabouts they are asked to contact the Battlefords RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
